  False advertising by DBROTH

  I own a SE Desk Magnifier lamp so I know what I got wasn't what DBROTH is advertising. I ended up with a lamp by HAWK, which is a cheap, worthless piece of junk. If you try to use the magnifier and bend the lamp part down, the whole lamp falls forward. The base is not heavy enough to support the lamp. The neck of the lamp is too flimsy to stay in position. What I got looked like it might have been a display model because it was badly scratched the the lid to the magnifier didn't lay flat. I returned the two lamps I bought and I am now trying another vender through Amazon. I was very disappointed with this vendor and product. PLEASE NOTE THAT I DID NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM FROM HOBBYTOOLSUPPLY. I am reordering this item from Hobbytoolsuppy and hopefully it will be the correct item.   If you use this magnifying lamp curved over, looking at something on the tabletop (as pictured and illustrated on its box) the whole lamp tips over. I don't know what the other reviewers are using it for (or how) but if your intent is to light and magnify small work on your table top (such as modeling or electronics)... FORGET IT. This lamp is awful unless you're willing to fix it by adding weight to the lamp base.Also, the magnifying lens only works correctly with the lens a precise, fixed distance from the table top and then a precise, fixed distance between your eyes and the lens.   Better than expected

  The description of this item has changed a few times, and some of the reviews appear to be for different lamps. I ordered and received a 90 LED lamp from ProMagnify and it's better than I expected at this price.The lens is indeed glass and the optical distortion at the correct working distance (about 5-8 inches) is minimal even towards the edges. If you try to view something from too far away, then there's more distortion, but that's normal.The box indicates this lamp comes in both a 3 diopter (1.75X) and 5 diopter (2.25X) version. Mine is the 5 diopter. The 3 diopter version would let you view things from farther away (10-13 inches) while a 5 diopter lamp is best for really fine work with small objects.The 90 LEDs are not as bright as similar fluorescent lamps but they're plenty bright for close viewing at the correct distance.   Bought this as a gift for my Dad. He is an avid coin collector. I had bought him a smaller one last year but it wasn't strong enough. He absolutely loves this one!   Great Replacement for Oler Fluorescent Magnifier

  This item was purchased to replace a fluorescent ring light/magnifier that had seen better days. I was concerned that wouldn't be as bright as other one and was pleasantly surprised. It is as bright, and I like the instant on when you press the switch, and the compactness that you get without the fluorescent tube. It is easy to use and place where it is needed. Highly recommended.   I was concerned that the magnifying glass was not actual glass but acrylic. I was pleasantly surprised & impressed at the clarity this Magnifying Lamp offers. I was also concerned that it wouldn't be big enough but it seems to be working out just fine. It stays put in most positions & the LED light is great. I like having the choice of using the batteries or plugging it into an outlet - makes it very portable. I use it for making jewelry but it would be great for all kinds of things.   Excellent for magnifying small objects

  I have been making jewelry and the wire and end clasps are small, but when I purchased this lamp at Amazon I thought it would help in making the wire, beads, and clasps easier to see. I was excited when I plugged in the lamp and started to make necklaces and earrings--the lamp magnified everything so that I could see a whole lot easier. I was able to affix the clasps in no time at all and as small as the beads were, the lamp made them appear larger and it was quicker for me to complete my projects.   Decent product

  My wife purchased this lamp for cross stitching at night while we are watching tv. It replaces an older rattle prone cross stitch lamp. The LED is bright and allows her to direct the light to exactly where she needs it so that the light doesn't blind me while watching tv or even talking to her (the old one lit the room and tv like a runway). The magnification is great and she likes that portion. The only negative she spoke of was there is no place to clip the pattern she is following and thus has to pick it up and place it under the magnification when she needs it, but all else is great. She liked it so much she just bought another one to give to her aging dad for use while he does his crossword and game books. It will work terrific for him doing this. 4/5 Paul E.   My 86 year old mom has tried multiple hand held magnifiers over the years, some lighted, some not, in her efforts to keep reading after a diagnosis of dry macular degeneration.   I have had and used many lighted magnified lamps. This "Professional Fluorescent Magnifier Lamp is every bit what the name sayes and then some! When I opened the package I was impressed with the construction and style. The width of the lamp creates a nice wide umbrella of light after you kickstart the two fluorscent bulbs on both sides of the light.   An excellent lighted magnifier at a very reasonable price

  I'll try not to repeat information on the website or covered by other reviewers. This lamp is substantial and well-constructed. The clamp will hold the base in place without twisting or sliding but you will need to crank down on it pretty tightly. The arms have enclosed springs and hold the magnifier in the position of choice without any appreciable drift. Two fluorescent tubes are provided with separate switches. Even after prolonged use, they do not radiate more than slight warmth to the face of the user or to the work. They provide ample, even illumination even for work on dark materials. The lens is large and free of annoying "cheap glass green" color. Another reviewer complained about distortion but this is unavoidable in a large lens of this type and modest cost. Center your work in the lens and distortion will not be a significant problem.Lamps of this type are available with magnification factors from 2 to 8 diopters.   I am not happy

  For the size of the light, size of the lens and overall weight, I am very disappointed with this light. There is a tremendous amount of distortion, so why make a lens this large? I would return it but I purchased it from JL Industrial and they don't allow returns unless it is defective, stupid me for not reading their return policy.   When I was looking for a light with a magnifier, I found very few that met my needs. I needed a compact desk top unit with a large magnifier that sat on the desk and not clamp on. The price had to be reasonable too. This seemed to meet all my needs but when I received it, I was surprised it was battery operated! It is even more fantastic!! I was able to use this with ease at a doll show and for long hours.   the magnifier is very clear and large to work with. The 6X zoom spot is really nice and clear too.Arm bends easily, but not too flimsy. Base holds it's weight well - tilted the arm all the way to the ground and the base never budged. LED light is not bright...if you want a brightly lit lamp this is not for you. It's just barely adequate. Has an AC power option, but make sure the limit is 400mA and 4V. Easier to just use batteries and with LED will likely last a very long time with the batteries. 4/5 J.   Okay, but not outstanding.

  This thing takes a little getting used to. First, you have to crank down hard on the wing nuts to keep everything at the angle you put it at. Second, and this is the main bad point, the light sucks. It's not that bright, and the wire in it was bad straight out of the box. If you have a second light source, use that.   Bottom line, Poor Product....

  Granted this is not an expensive item, but I think it's reasonable to expect that it is at least functional. When I received the tool the package was not open, but loose and a little rubber thing fell out - I wasn't exactly sure what it was, but held on to it. Next, I notice one of the metal clips lying in the bottom of the shipping box - haven also fallen out of the package. Luckily, nothing fell out of the shipping box. I start to assemble the tool and test the light - remember that little rubber thing? Well it's the cover for the on and off switch. How it fell out I'll never know because getting it back in and working was so much trouble I gave up - I'll try it again after I fix the wiring. Oh yes...FIX the wiring. The light flickered at random and within a minute of setting it up, stopped working entirely. Next, I notice one of the metal clips lying in the bottom of the shipping box - haven also fallen out of the package. Luckily, nothing fell out of the shipping box. I start to assemble the tool and test the light - remember that little rubber thing? Well it's the cover for the on and off switch. How it fell out I'll never know because getting it back in and working was so much trouble I gave up - I'll try it again after I fix the wiring. Oh yes...FIX the wiring.   Very Good!

  This is a nice lamp. The bulb is color-balanced and very bright. The two lenses are real glass, both clear and bright. Overall construction seems very good, the pivot points are smooth and tight and the frame seems solid. It stays where you put it. My only negative is with the clamp-on portion, which could be a bit larger and stronger, although it isn't bad. In my case, I don't use the clamp anyway, just drilled a 1/2" hole near the edge of my workbench and the light fits solidly in the hole and isn't in the way.Overall, I give it 5 stars for the quality of the light, the lenses, and the arm mechanism, as well as the overall design and slim size. I might knock off a half-star for the table clamp if I could. Check out others like this (I looked at dozens) and you'll see that most are more expensive and possibly not as good.   Mag Lamp

  This lamp is AWESOME. It's the same one sold in the Universal Catalogue for Aestheticians at $109.00. There's no distortion and provides great day-like light. Holds its place when adjusted using the screw bracket, it's not a gooseneck. You can't just grab and turn this one with one hand, like most of us tend to do.   The lamp is 22 watts but puts out enough light to be used as a ceiling light in a small room (10x10feet). It adjusts from 8 inches above the desk to about 42 inches above the desk. The desk being 30 inches off the floor. The adjustments are smooth and positive. Once adjusted it stays adjusted. No sign of droop. It swings 180 degrees in its mounting in my installation. The movement is smooth and positive.It comes with two lenses (high and low magnification) that are high quality glass and easily interchangable.The lamp gets warm but not hot. It uses an electronic ballast that is quiet both audibly and electrically. I use a lot ot electronic equipment that is sensitive to electrical noise.   Great bang for your buck!

  I got this lamp because I have some detail painting that I needed to do. The thing was that I didn't really want to spend $60.00-$80.00 dollars for something I'm not going to use very often. Even though this lamp didn't have any reviews on it I decided to take a chance and boy am I glad I did! I received the lamp yesterday and man am I happy I didn't go out and spend all that money on another lamp! This lamp is fantastic! You know that saying, "Good things come in small packages?"   Diameter a bit disappointing

  Even though I paid attention to the dimensions and looked at my tape measure, when this light arrived I found the diameter to be too small for my purpose. The magnification is great, the quality of light and size of the base is great. I love the adjustability of the light head and overall the quality is good. The cover is great for keeping dust away but the lens is smaller than I anticipated and I found it hard to focus except in the very center. As you move your head/eyes or hands beneath, it is easy to lose focus on the object.   Swing arm lamp

  When this arrived one of the springs that holds up the arm, was broken off. Good thing my husband is handy, he was able to fix it. This was specifically purchased for my husband for when he makes his models, the swing arm is perfect, the only thing the bulb that was included burnt out very quickly, so I replaced it with an energy efficient one.   OK, but shorter than I thought.

  I've had this type light for many years, and love them. They're perfect in my sewing room, for providing light on the machine where I need it, and for allowing me to see the needle better as I thread it. Works great for work benches, too. Great to see slivers, and detail work of any kind.This one does NOT have a cover built in for the magnifying glass, though, and I didn't think I'd miss it. I do. For one, it gets dirty now, and also, I worry about starting a fire with the open magnifier being so close to a window.It's also a bit shorter than my old light, and I wasn't worried because I measured, and this seemed like it would work, but it just barely reaches the front of my machine, due to the need to clear the top of the machine. Be sure you know how long you need this to be, before you order, and remember it is not capable of bending in a curve. It has a single joint half way, and at the light.
