Blackhead Remover Options | What You Should Know About Black Head ...

by Blackheads&Whiteheads

If you want to get rid of blackheads fast, a blackhead remover is the tool you need. Such a remover is specially designed to cause the right pressure on your skin and get the blackheads out. A blackhead remover tool can however cause some damage to the skin, and it is important to choose the right one.

First, you should know that the safest way to use a black head remover is to go to a dermatologist and let the doctor clear your skin of blackheads with such a tool. This is the best option if you want to avoid any damages to your skin and even acne scarring. By removing your blackheads yourself, you run the risk of leaving scars and you will then need to find an acne scar removal solution.

However, there are many blackhead removers created for home use. Here are basically the different types of removers that are available.

Pointed Tweezers

Only pointed tweezers are suitable for blackhead extraction. You may want to pierce the top of a large blackhead, before you press it with tweezers to remove it.

Loop Blackhead Extractor

Initially, loop blackhead extractors were created for professional use only. They are made of steel. If pressed too hard, these blackhead removers can cause skin damage and even a little bleeding. So make sure you use them with great care.

To use these tools, you need to press the loop against the skin around a blackhead to squeeze it out. As a rule of thumb, remove only ‘ripe’ blackheads, which means only the ones that are ready to be squeezed.

Revlon Stainless Steel Blackhead Remover is an example of these tools. It has two loops that can safely clear clogged pores and is designed to be gentle on the skin. The small loop can remove blackheads and the larger loop can remove whiteheads. Other examples are Tweezerman Whitehead / Blackhead Remover, and Lancet Blackhead Remover.

Blackhead Gun

This type of blackhead removal tools are usually made of plastic. They vacuum out the contents of the pores. This type of blackhead extractor is the safest one, as these guns are usually not powerful enough to damage the skin.

I would not recommend the blackhead removing strips that are common now--all they do is remove hair; when the hair is ripped out by the root, the root fills with oil, and you have yourself yet more problems. Instead, massage the blackheads out with DHC's

Perioxide is the best...Witch Hazel is another...you can find witch hazel at the drug store by the first aid items... but i find perioxide to be the best.... just like it dyes your hair, it will help get rid of the "black" on the top.....

blackhead remover?

do those black head remover tools really work? the things that has the little loop on the bottom and there suppose to remove the blackhead without irration or scarring!

Yes, it works if used properly. I have one & use it quite often. You should always wash your face first & afterwards to prevent infection.

They work well as long as you don't push too hard and try to force it. Also, you ahould do this after washing your face with warm water or steaming it as our pores are more open at these times and it will make it easier to get the dirt and oil to come
w3nnY | Feb 08, 2008
you must clean face first before remove the blackhead, than scrubbing, steam and remove it, after that, dont forget to use face mask to close the pores, it will make skin soft and the pores will small. If you not use face mask, the pores become larger.

I found a very efficient way to use this. It works well for black/white heads

When I got it first, I was excited and used it on dry skin. It did not work! Then, as per youtube instructions i "steamed" my face for 15 minutes over a pan of boiling water and a towel over my head. Then I used the tool. This worked okay, but it was a hassle and not as effective. I was like.... meh... Then one day it struck me that after my 30 minute cardio workouts, my body temperature stays higher than normal for at least another hour, and that the skin on my face gets moist from all the sweat coming out of my pores. So I USED THE TOOL RIGHT AFTER MY WORKOUT. And it got rid of ALL my black/white heads. Even though sweat comes out of different pores than sebum, I think the moisture coming out of my skin is better than steam at wetting sebum in my clogged pores. Also, I continue to sweat for atleast another 15-20 minutes after I am done with my workout, so that gives me enough time to get rid of the gunk on my face. I "scrape" my skin with the... 5/5 Onion Rings "x5j5x" (USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Body Toolz Double Loop Facial Skin Care Tool (Misc.) for $7, everyone should own this

I just got mine yesterday and my skin feels seriously so much better! I'm 22 ad I've been suffering from acne over half of my life. I've been to so many different dermatologists, paid for so many visits and prescriptions, and have had so many allergic reactions. I'm so glad to find something that I don't have to worry bout the side effects and long-term effects. Note that I have many tiny, pore sized whiteheads and blackheads on my face, chest and back. They are mainly more firm, and not the runny, puss-filled kind. In other words, when I squeeze them, a firm whitish matter comes out. While washing my face today with a benzoyl peroxide wash, I ran this across my face and it got about a third of the acne out and brought about another third closer to the surface. I can't wait to keep using this over the next few days to purge my skin! I plan on using this along with my doctor prescribed Retin-A micro gel, clyndamycin gel, and benzoyl peroxide face wash. I also just bought a salicylic... 5/5 becca - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Body Toolz Double Loop Facial Skin Care Tool (Misc.) Awesome Little Tool

I don't get a ton of blemishes, but when I do I can't resist the urge to pop the little buggers. My girlfriend pointed out one of these types of tools in CVS one day, but being the Amazon-addict that I am, I waited until I got home to order one online. This is a very well constructed piece of "equipment" and serves its purpose admirably. It does an EXCELLENT job of extracting white heads and black heads. One end is used for white heads and really gets all the gunk out, the other is used for black heads/clogged pours. This requires a bit more work, but still does a great job. Best of all, it doesn't leave my skin agitated and puffy like my fingernails do. If you get the occasional blemish, get one of these. They are cheap, easy to use, and effective. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS TOOL!! TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

We've had this incredible tool for over a year now, and wouldn't want to live without it! It works amazingly well, with two sizes to use, depending on your specific needs. It works 99% of the time, though there is the very rare moment that it might not work on a particular blackhead or pimple. Again, this is very rare! The people giving this tool bad reviews must be doing something wrong. I honestly can't imagine why they would say what they did. They probably didn't use it enough. This blackhead/pimple remover is far less damaging to the skin than trying to dig them out with your fingers, finger nails, or a needle, God forbid! Once I use the tool on a pimple, I cleanse the area, and put a blemish control cream on, and nine times out of ten, the area is 90% healed within 12 hours or less! Again, this depends on the blemish. If it's just removing a blackhead, the redness goes away withing 15 to 20 minutes and I'm good to go! Be sure to cleanse the area on the skin, and the... 5/5 C. Works, but rather large

It works fine but it's pretty big and certainly not travel size. For those who don't know how, place it directly over the blackhead so that is shows through the opening and you push straight down, sometimes rather hard depending on how much padding is under the skin. Look which direction the pore goes (you can see the discoloration through the skin) and push so it can work straight out of the pore even if it is at an angle. Still trouble, experiment with wiggling it around just slightly as you apply pressure down. This help work it out. Also it helps if you do it soon after a shower.these don't work as well on the face, period. How hard the core is and where on the face you try to use it can be the difference between failure and success. This can work on white heads, but it will hurt more. Just make sure you gently open the top with a needle before using the tool and pushing down. It will require less force and hurt a little less than it would if you didn't open... 4/5 Luinril (Fayetteville, NC) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Works wonders!

This is a really effective tool. My face is always covered in white heads/black heads that I never could get rid of. The first time I used this, I removed almost every little embedded white head/black head from my forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Trust me, there was a lot that I visibly saw being extracted by this tool. I used this after washing my face in a hot shower. I also keep the tool clear as I use it by dipping it in rubbing alcohol inbetween extractions, and rinsing it off in hot water. You have to keep your face wet for this to work after a shower, cause only then will the black heads be visible enough/soft enough to extract. Just drag the big loop of large areas to extract many white heads at once, such as your forhead/chin. Making sure to press it flat onto the skin, and running it over so that it presses out the heads. The smaller end is for targeting areas, such as the smaller parts of your nose, and any black heads that aren't removed with... 5/5 popnull (Kissimmee, Florida) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) It used to be a good product, but not any more.

I bought two of these recently, and they are awful. Too bad because I bought one several years ago, and it was fantastic. The difference is in the manufacturing. The older version is like a fine medical instrument. The loops that are used to express the comedone are strong but very thin, well-angled and appropriately sized for the task, and smoothly finished. By contrast, the two that I bought most recently look like they were made by your average eighth grader in metal shop. The loops are not angled at all, are three to four times the diameter of those on the good one, and are coarse in both their dimensions and finish--in fact the edges are kind of sharp and they appear to be not finished at all. Both implements are completely useless for the task. No better than using a paper clip. Both the old and the new were made in Pakistan and sold by Revlon. I guess things are really going down hill in Pakistan--and apparently also at Revlon quality control... 1/5 STEPHEN D WILSON - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) works better than a higher priced one I previously purchased

I opted for a more expensive brand and design over this one initially. I wish I'd have been cheap and just bought this one in the first place. The other one was sharp and it was hard to use without cutting the skin. Defeats the whole purpose of using a tool instead of your finger nails. Anyway, the loops on the Revlon gently coax out trapped white or black heads of all sizes. One complaint on many of these is that one loop is too big and, therefore, useless. Really Good!

I have a few, small blackheads on my forehead but my nose is riddled with them. It literally looks like my nose is covered with little black hairs. So gross. I actually never knew what they were, they just popped up one day and never went away. I tried popping them, I tried those painful Biore nose strips, I tried Queen Helene masques and aspirin masks and honey masks and steaming and all kinds of cleansers... all to no avail. After finding out that these were little nasty oil plugs in my skin, I decided to look for something specifically for blackheads, which led me to this cleanser. After using this every night for a week, I'd say about 50% of the blackheads on my nose have either disappeared, are shrinking or are lighter in color. After more than a decade with these non-budging things on my face, I'm extremely happy with the results I'm getting. I actually can't believe that in a few weeks, I'll most likely be blackhead free... 4/5 Tiffani W. It works great for me!

Everyone is different. This works great for me especially for face exfoliation. Of course this isn't the only acne product I use - like all good regimens, I use more than one product (mostly all Neutrogena though). Because I use more than one product, I can't say exactly which one has totally cleared my face for the past 6-8 months or so, or if it's a joint endeavor between the products that I use, but I was using this one before I added all the other ones onto the process. I used to be Ms. Acne-Oily-Flaky-Face until I started to use this; my acne began clearing up and the flakes were gone. Because of my super-oily skin, my dermatologist recommended using products that are drying to the skin. I began to also use an honest-to-goodness face wash (even though my derm rec'd Dial because it is drying), the Neutrogena Wave (for extra exfoliation, I use the Wave on my face before I rinse the blackhead scrub off) and the Noxema cleansing pads, and oil-free Neutrogena... 5/5 MariRuthie (Marietta, GA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I love this stuff!

This product is really great. I use it every morning in the shower and it makes my skin feel so nice and smooth. I used to get a lot of blackheads on my cheeks and chin and the scrub has significantly reduced them. In so doing this it has also made my pores smaller. Just remember that this is a scrub and not so much a cleanser. So I use Oxy maximum strength acne wash right after I use the blackhead eliminating scrub. 5/5 Megan Parfitt (Sacramento, Ca) - See all my reviews, April 3, 2010

So this is an excellent buy. If you use this as recommended, you will find that there is minimal damage to the skin. Less of a chance of inflaming the problem area, which makes for quicker healing. I would suggest though, if you have this item and are using it, please don't forget to sanitize it after each use. If you do not, then you are just transferring bacteria back onto the skin. I also think this should be given to every teenager so they are showed the correct way to extract those unsightly whiteheads and blackheads. 5/5 Mary Feathers "Tickled Pink Blondie" (Virginia) - See all my reviews, May 16, 2008

    Love this item

After watching my dermatologist use a tool like this on me for whiteheads, I decided to buy one for myself and save a trip. Love this item. In fact, this is the second one I'm ordering, lost the first one in the move from CA to TX. I don't have blackheads, but it works great on whiteheads. 5/5 Melissa Butler (Ontario, CA) - See all my reviews, March 1, 2007

    Just okay

I was excited about this when I ordered it but the results were less than impressive. I feel like if you have large pores it would work great (worked great on my husband *don't tell him I said that*) but if you have small pores I hate to say it but fingernails work better. The tool is just too big to be used for small pores or delicate areas of the face. 2/5 Nadine Cote (Katy, TX) - See all my reviews, January 26, 2009

    VERY pleased

I started having problems with adult onset acne at about age 25 - am now 40. Have tried everything - oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, retin-a, etc. etc. Despite trying numerous dermatologists, I never got what I considered good results - just a three minute visit and a couple of scripts. Decided to try this - at the price, nothing to lose. Man am I pleased. For the first time, acne is resolved (I have used the peel once a week for about six weeks). My scarring is improved and my skin tone is becoming much more even. Even improving my melasma. I would highly recommend this product. Word of caution. Acne will worsen after the first treatment - wait it out - it will improve Dramatically. 5/5 J. Wesson (Warrior, Alabama United States) - See all my reviews, August 1, 2008

    Great Product on Ebony Skin

I started getting acne young, when i was about 10 and i didnt know how to look after my skin then. No cleansing, toning or even moisturizing because i thought that would give me more spots, what a fool i was. The problem with black skin is that it hyperpigments easy and by the time i was 21 i couldnt bare to look at myself in the mirror, i had so many acne scars i couldnt stand it. Dermatologists were no help, the pills and creams are useless if you dont have a good skin care regimen which is something the doctors dont usually tell you. In 2001 called around and was told by everyone on Harley Street that dermabrasion and skin peels were not for black skin tones so i paid £1800 for lazer treatment. It worked to some extent, the spots went and my skin looked clearer but if i had known about this product i wouldnt have bothered. The truth is that these skin acids can and are used safely on ebony skin tones and have been for years. I am a caramel complexion... 5/5 Tina2s - See all my reviews This review is from: Salicylic Acid 20% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional) (Misc.) Definatly works!!

At first i was skeptical of this acid peel, but changed my mind soon after. I took before photos to see the change the peel would have on my face, and its only been about 4 weeks, but i will take pics soon of the after results after 6 weeks. Im 20, male, white, with slightly oily skin, and acne that sometimes turns horrible on me and makes cysts only on cheeks though. One cyst next to my eye and eyebrow left a bad scar. This stuff does tingle a bit, but very bearable. Used first for 2 mins, and had no effect, upped it to 4, same result. Used the full 8 mins the next day, started to see improvements. I modified the instructions a bit because my skin is used to exfoliations by 10% benzoil peroxide which only made pimples smaller and face a bit dry. I used every other day for the full 8 mins every time. But i suggest follow their instructions first before adjusting it. No down time here, and no redness like some people mentioned, and i dont... 4/5 V. Umanov "|T|" (Utica, NY USA) - See all my reviews, June 24, 2009

    decent instrument

Just got this today and tried it out. Overall, I'd say it is a decent instrument for the price tag, although something like $5 or 10 may have been more appropriate. It feels well-made, and comes with a small, discrete leather-looking cover for storage. My only complaint is that the tips come unscrewed if you hold it incorrectly. It doesn't really do anything spectacular. The rounded end works just about as well as tweezers for "extracting." I liked the sharp "lancet" a bit more... you could probably get a similar effect by using a sharp sewing-type needle, but this tool's "spade" shape probably works a bit better. I think the main reason to consider this product would be if you want a separate instrument specifically for this purpose - if you don't have needles and tweezers to spare or don't want to get yours dirty. Also, do not buy this if you cannot stand any pain. It is mildly painful to use (mostly the "lancet" tip) - about as painful as plucking your... 3/5 Kish (California) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great tool but directions are needed

I got this tool to help my little daughter who had a blemish that would not go away on its own. It worked well but I had to find a youtube video for directions since none were included. I like the case it comes in as well as the quality, effectiveness and durability. Good item. 5/5 Ann K. Richards (East Tennessee) - See all my reviews, April 21, 2011

    Works great!

I bought this product about a month ago. After just one use I saw a difference! My blackheads looked a lot smaller and less noticeable. It also makes your face super smooth and soft! My only warning is to be careful not to use it too much - I accidentally scrubbed off a layer of my skin and it caused an unattractive scab. It healed in under a week though and my blackheads are practically gone! I have tried many other 'blackhead removing' products and none of them work as well as this one, and it is a lot cheaper too. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get rid of their blackheads. Had this for years!

Essentially all the extractors are pretty much the same. I just happen to buy this on a whim years ago from amazon.com and I still have it years later! It works just as good as it did several years ago. It gets to the heart of the matter with busting down those nasty icky white heads. Make sure that you have a steady hand while apply pressure. Some times, it will take a few times with applying pressure for it to pop but it will pop! A good trick is to wash your face first and exfoliate ( is GREAT and its cheap) with your skin being soft from being wet and the exfoliation the pimple will burst more easily. You will see the puss than the blood. If you don't see blood then its not over just yet! Need to apply more pressure! Be sure to put a warm/hot rag over the area, then... 5/5 SoBlue - See all my reviews This review is from: Earth Therapeutics Skin Care Tool, Black Head + White Head Extractor, 1 extractor (Misc.) Does nothing...

This was worth a laugh. It's really loud and sucks up a big hunk of skin, but it does nothing for blackheads. I'm not sure what it could possiby be good for, but I'm certain it won't help anyone's blackhead situation. 1/5 Pretty much amazing - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
