  The Teen Years

  When a strip has a name as tasteful and enlightening as "Zits," you know it'll be a winner. And the third "Sketchbook" just came out!The absence of "Calvin and Hobbes" left a hole in the witty humor department for a very long time (the WP newspaper has replaced it with the abysmal "Boondocks") but Zits has an almost eerie similarity to it in structure--as well as the fact that Jeremy has a remarkable resemblance to a six-foot-tall Calvin. It's "Calvin: The Teen Years."Jeremy Duncan is a fifteen-year-old boy who lives in an average home in the suburbs. He tolerates his out-of-it-but-smart parents Walt and Connie, secretly longs for the unattainable Sarah (think of Susie at fifteen), and hangs out with best friend Hector (Hobbes has morphed into a Hispanic high-schooler with more wisdom than Jeremy can ever have).Jeremy is such an "ordinary" teenager that it's astounding.   Every Strip Can Relate

  This book is full of strips that can relate to almost every teenagers life. Everything from having a girlfriend to the actions made towards the parents by Jeremy(the teenager), and the actions of the parents towards him. After reading this book I found that almost every strip related to me. It's good reading for all ages (if you can read), so I recommend that you check this book out.   Nice to see all the episodes in one collection

  Within weeks of the release of the wondrous Walt Disney Treasure DVD set, "The Mickey Mouse Club Presents Annette," here we have her far more opulent descendant of teen stardom, "Hannah Montana" in its first full-season collection.It's not like you can't turn on Disney Channel and see a multitude of "Hannah" shows at will, but they tend to be clustered without sequence, so it's a different experience to see each show one after the other without promos and other network clutter that even clogs the occasional series marathon.Like "The Monkees," when the furor fades and the songs fall from the charts, the show itself is left to stand on its own. While no one pretends this is "30 Rock" or "Frasier," the "Hannah" series is a capable effort, with Miley Cyrus carrying virtually every scene with timing and confidence that develops somewhat over the episodes. What also becomes clear is the comic frenzy of Jason Earles as her brother, Jackson.   Finally, there's now a complete season one dvd set for the Hannah Montana series! This is well worth buying and it would be such a good keepsake for any Hannah Montana fan.   Best TV series to be produced in a long time

  I saw the promo for this show before it first premiered on the Disney channel.As a kid, being a rock star was one of my fantasies. That was not unusual in itself I don't think. The thing in my case was that I wanted to be a "secret" rock star living a double life. So, I had to check out this show when it first aired.Naturally, the show was aimed at younger kids. But I fell in love with the show during the first episode, "Lilly Do You Want to know a Secret." I think this is one of the best TV series to be produced in a long time. I bought the first season the day it was released on DVD and I am looking forward to season 2, 3 and 4 when they are released.It's great to be able to watch the shows on demand or in series the way they were created.   Ridiculous entertainment does not equal great cinema

  Osmosis Jones is one of those movies you almost feel like you have to apologize for liking. Well, forget about it, because this is a very funny and downright entertaining movie with no class whatsoever!The scenes bounce between live acting and full animation, determined by whether we are outside or inside the body of Frank. The casting for this silly and peculiar movie was expertly chosen for both live and voice roles.Live, we have Bill Murray as Frank, in his most disgusting character since Caddyshack. Chris Elliot plays his brother Bob, and manages to challenge Murray in the "disgusting slob" category. Murray eats a hard boiled egg that landed in monkey doodoo, and thus introduces Thrax into his body, a red-death virus determined to take over Frank and kill him.   Educational (Kinda!)

  I've been a 5th grade teacher for 5 years and have shown this movie each year as a reward after learning about the human body in science/health. The kids, for the most part, really enjoy it. There is just enough nasty stuff in there to gross them out - which they love! As a teacher, I just love the entire analogy of the story - every little cell in the body is working toward the same goal - keeping Frank alive. The kids like it, and I also enjoy it.   I run a bookgroup for kids between the ages of 9-13. Like a number of American children in the 21st century, these kids have an overwhelming palate for good graphic novels. I can hand them "" or "" or "", it doesn't matter. Whatever the title, they devour these books in less than an hour and come hounding me for more.   I heard about Zita the Spacegirl through a friend's blog, and even though I'm not a big comics person I decided to check it out. I'm so glad I did! This book is a joy of a ride--with a spunky character you totally root for (and who has depths to her that so many characters in this genre unfortunately don't have); a gang of pals, each one unique and funny and intriguing (a giant mouse with a mysterious past, for example); a plot that keeps you turning the pages without even noticing you're turning them...The art is brilliant and brilliantly colorful, with terrific world-building and new details you find even on, say, the third read. This is a comic for both boys and girls, and adults too. No wonder it's gotten such good reviews in the press/blogs/Goodreads/MTV.com, etc. I can't wait for the sequel!   I Love It!

  What do you do when you find a little device with a big red button sitting in a hole? You get the device and push the button! At least, that's what Zita does. The next thing she knows her friend Joseph is gone, taken by who knows what! Zita follows, determined to save Joseph. Far from home, across the universe, on a far away planet, Zita meets monsters. But, she also meets friends who help along the way.I LOVED this book! It took me forever (maybe a slight exaggeration here) to finally get my hands on it though. My kids swiped it up right away and it didn't surface again for days! My youngest (8) read through it twice and loved it. This is a graphic novel and one of the first ones I've read and owned. I won it through First Reads on Goodreads. I know, lucky, huh? This book was funny. I laughed right out loud several times. Which for me, is something. This is a "fun for all ages" kind of book.
