how do you get cold soars?

i sometimes get them, and the are really anoying because they are huge and sometimes look like zits. they really bug me, and my brother gets them to. are they genaric?

Cold Sores are usually caused by stress. Any kind of stress: Tests, Oweing more money than you have, Strains on Relationships Etc. I tend to get them right before my period begins (Cold sores AND Zits how fun) They are not normally genaric but anything is possible.

Cold sores are herpes. When your immune system is low and you're under environmental stress you get the outbreak.
Jennifer | Jun 26, 2007
You get them from someone else who has them. It is a virus so you can never get rid of it, but most of the time it's dormant. You can get them from being sick or stressed out. Use Abreva and take some lysine as soon as you feel one coming on. If you catch it in time, it usually won't get bigger. If they are really becoming a problem for you, go see a doctor. You can get on Valtrex or acyclovir (Zovirax) to help keep breakouts from happening.

have you eaten at any dingy little Chinese restaurants lately, there's this Chinese food place close to were I live just off the strip. I like it because they are open till the wee hours of the morning. Every time I eat from there I get a cold soar. Don't eat food from Golden spice palace and you'll be fine.
mlgable | Jun 26, 2007
They are caused by the herpes virus. When your immune system is weak that is when you will most likely get a cold sore aka herpes outbreak. When you get them be sure you don't kiss anyone and don't share eating or drinking utensils as herpes is contagious.
supermadchen | Jun 26, 2007
They can be genetic. It has to do with having the herpes virus, but is not the same as the herpes virus that causes genital herpes. The virus that causes cold sores is herpes simplex, and I have read that as much as 80-90% of adults will be infected with the virus in their lifetime, though only about half ever experience an out break. If you get them frequently, talk to your doctor about it. Valtrex can be used to treat cold sores. I have a prescription, and if I take the first dose when I feel a sore coming on, but before it turns into a blister, I usually never have to experience the blisters at all. It is important to take the medication as early as possible though, the longer you wait, the less likely it will work.
Blondie | Jun 26, 2007
It's a virus that lives in your body, and you never get rid of the virus, it just isn't always active. Not everyone has the virus. Some people are born with it, others get it from kissing someone else who has the virus. Now that you have the virus, theres nothing you can do about that, but you can sort of prevent the cold sores themselves. They occur when your immune system is weakened, which is why you get them in the winter, because it's cold. So stay warm, get enough sleep, and eat healthy and you'll probably get them less. Also, I think there might be medicines of some sort that make you less likely to get them, and there are things that you can put on a cold sore to help it heal. Ask your doctor about that, or look in the drugstore. And you can always use a small amount of skincolor makeup to make it less obvious. Even if you're a guy, don't be self conscious about it. Just make sure it matches your skin tone and is rubbed in enough that you can't tell you're wearing the makeup.
DrEarp | Jun 26, 2007
Cold sores are basically mucocutaneous ulcerations of the lips and oral cavity caused by Herpes Simplex I virus. Herpes Simplex viruses are essentially grouped into types I & II, the latter occurring below the umbilicus (belly button) and the former above it. Herpes Simplex I virus is extremely common and the majority of persons in industrialized nations have been exposed by age 6 months, primarily via their parents. As with Shingles, which is caused by Varicella Zoster virus, Herpes Simplex I resides in neural tissue (nerves) and is activated by stress, illness or concommitant infection (say a cold, tonsillitis, etc). The ulcers tend to be painful and will last anywhere from 5-12 days. The length of time the ulcers are present and the degree of tenderness can be mitigated by agents such as Valtrex or Zovirax. These are antiviral agents only available by prescription. They do not kill the virus but interrupt and/or stop its replication therefore decreasing the time you have the ulcers. Local anesthetics, many of which are OTC (over-the-counter) medications will provide temporary pain relief. This in not an inherited condition; that is, it is not genetic; it is the result of exposure to the virus from another person. I hope this answers your questions. DrEarp

First off, they're cold SORES, not soars. They're caused by a herpes virus, and are usually around the outside of your mouth on the edges of your lips. They flare up from time to time, and are contagious. Usually last for a few days and then crust over, finally healing. They are not GENERIC, nor are they GENETIC, which is what I think you mean (?) Simply means you've been exposed to the herpes virus at some time in your life. They are also called "fever blisters." I found the following info on a website for you: Hope this helps:) What Causes Cold Sores? Cold sores are caused by a virus called herpes. Herpes is one of the most common viral infections in the world. The medical name for the specific virus that causes cold sores is herpes simplex. There are two types of herpes simplex infection: herpes simplex virus one (called HSV-1 for short) and herpes simplex virus two (called HSV-2 for short). Although both can cause cold sores around a person's mouth, most are caused by HSV-1. HSV-1 is so common that most Americans get infected with it, although many never have any symptoms. People can catch HSV-1 by kissing a person with a cold sore or sharing a drinking glass or utensils, so it's easy to see why there are so many cold sores around. People who are infected with HSV-1 may get cold sores occasionally for the rest of their lives That's because even after the sores themselves dry up and go away, the virus stays in the body, waiting around for another time to come out and cause more sores. When a cold sore reappears, it is often in the same place as the previous one. How Can I Keep From Getting Cold Sores? Although HSV-1 isn't a big deal, it's a good idea to try to keep cold sores as far away as possible. If someone you know has a cold sore, don't kiss him or her and don't drink out of the same glass or use the same knife, fork, or spoon. Sharing towels, washcloths, or napkins
andy c | Jun 26, 2007
It's either caused by the herpes simplex-1 or herpes simplex-2. Not sure which one, but it's harmless and 75% of the population has it. Even though you may not currently have a coldsore it's always there, the virus.

Too many acne products?

I use: clean and clear facial wash c&c blackhead wash occasionally c&c blackhead eraser duac prescibed lotion and creme and sometimes clerisil ultra face pads. Is this too much when I have probably 4 or 5 pimples at a time. If so what should I use. Or in what order should I use them? Thank you.

Yes, that's too much. These are commercial chemicals (yes, they try to help you, but the number 1 thing is making money, not curing you). What I found worked was to GROW UP!!! haha literally, grow up. As I get older, the pimples disappear. I had moderate/severe acne on my forehead (oh god, it was terrible, and all concentrated in one place!) So in order of effectiveness... 1. Grow older. 2. Wash my face with just soap and water twice a day (no harsh chemicals please!) 3. Sleep. SLEEP SLEEEEP haha Ya...if I sleep more, my zits practically are gone (well not really, but dramatically decreases). 4. DRINK WATERRRR! (3 cups per day sounds reasonable) 5. Take aspirin (amoxicilin I believe...) I was sick, so I took some medicine, and I guess the medicine killed the germs in my pimples too! 6. Egg whites mask (basically you have egg whites and you stir it, apply it to your face for 10 minutes, and then wash it off). Ya I know how zits can be super annoying and embarrasing. I've had them since I was 12 years old, and now I'm 17 and they're a lot better. Yes, I still ahve breakouts every once in a while, but half the time, I only have a few scars (which aren't that bad actually). :D Good luck! And just be confident!

wowwowow. yes you do have alot of products. but beleive me, i can totally relate to you. i have 13 skin products! hahhahaha, i dont use all of these i just have them. i use about 5 of them. i got prescribed duac aswell, it worked for about 2 weeks but then stopped working for me, i suggest you stop using some of the products you dont need, and as i can relate to you again by only havingaround 4 pimples, i suggest you listen. the other day i had an allergic reaction, this is the second time this has happend to me, due to an allergic reaction of a face wash, also i had been using to many things on my face. i am now on steroids prescribed by my doctor for the second time to try and heal my face. please listen to my answer, and please dont use all of your products, as before its to late you could have damaged your skin rather than heal it! :) x x

    Decent recorder, nothing spectacular

Customer Video Review Length:: 3:21 MinsNight video leaving a gas station. Not too great quality wise but I guess if you were involved in an accident, I guess it would be better than nothing. As you can see in the video, unless you're close to light sources or other cars, you'll just get blobs of light, can't really tell what's what. Pros: *Suction cup mount for windshield holds pretty tight (better than my GPS mount, which would fall often), even tugging at it wouldn't budge it. *The actual camera screws into the mount, like a digital camera does onto a mount. *Once memory is full, it overwrites older data. *Car charger cord is pretty long; I can probably run it through my headliner into the dash so its not in the way. *3 recording options: 2 minutes/5 minutes/15 minutes Cons: *Not true HD on highest setting. *Highest setting results in choppy recording\playback... 3/5 RG - See all my reviews This review is from: HD 720P 2.5" LCD Monitor CAR Dash Dashboard CAMERA Cam VEHICLE VIDEO Accident RECORDER DVR Support SD/MMC Memory Card : Up to 64GB (Electronics), August 25, 2011

More Quantity and Quality of Life--Guaranteed!

I was lucky enough to be home one afternoon 15 years ago watching the Phil Donahue show. Linus Pauling was on the show promoting this book opposite Jack La Lanne (the fitness guru), who was hyping some expensive vitamin regime he was selling. I had never taken a vitamin in my life (28 years old!), but something about the sincerity and wisdom of what Linus was communicating made sense to me. I bought the book and followed the guidelines. I haven't had a serious cold or flu in 15 years. Oh yes, I feel the viruses and germs attack my system, and I will occasionally be congested or run a slight fever when a strong flu strain races through the population, but I just start taking 1000 mg of Vitamin C an hour at the first hint of illness and the symptoms never become more than a minor inconvenience.I'm not claiming miracles, because believe me I've had my share of physical infirmities (ruptured lumbar disc, bursitis of the shoulder, vertigo) and I'm not a new age nut who completely... 5/5 Aaron Reed (Santa Monica, CA USA) - See all my reviews, February 5, 2002

The real deal - straight from THE MAN!

I was a CHEM major some 35+ years ago, and Dr. Pauling was sort of an icon among we BioChem wannabes - undoubtedly one of the great biochemists of the 20th century. To me the proof of the pudding is in the eating: I cannot trace a single male member of my family, back into the early 1800s, who lived to see their 60th BD. My great grandfather died at 54, my grandfather in his early 40s, my father at 59 and my only brother of conjestive heart failure at 54. Are you impressed by now? God willing, I will see my 70th this fall. People tell me I look like I'm in my late 50s, I haven't had a cold in at least 25 years, I've never really been seriously ill, and I feel good - thank you very much. I first read Dr. Pauling's stuff on the wonders of Vitamin C (especially taken in conjuncton with Vitamin E) and became a devotee more than 30 years ago, based mainly on his reputation. I've been a Pauling vitamin popper for over 30 years now, although... 5/5 W. J Yates "j-b1" (Oklahoma City, OK USA) - See all my reviews, April 21, 2007

Reviewed by Andrew W. Saul Assistant Editor, Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine My Dad always said that when you want to know something, talk to the organ-grinder, not the monkey. With that epithet in mind, may I suggest that you promptly borrow or buy a copy of Linus Pauling's How to Live Longer and Feel Better, recently reissued in an updated 20th anniversary edition. Yes, this is THE Dr. Pauling: the man your chemistry teacher idolized and your family doctor tries hard to ignore. Why? Because Linus Pauling committed the cardinal sin of allopathic medicine: he, a medical outsider, dared to present, directly to the public, his insightful reviews of the scientific literature to demonstrate that high doses of vitamins cure real diseases. What's more, Pauling reassessed many supposedly open-and-thoroughly shut "vitamins-are-useless" studies and explained how the researchers had skirted the fact that their data actually demonstrated that vitamin therapy did... 5/5 Andrew W. I was really excited for these refills to revive the bedazzler from my childhood and bring back the 90s. HOWEVER, I wouldn't put these "jewels" on the ugliest piece of clothing I own. The actual studs are different even from the picture on the box -- false advertising much??? The "jewels" are tiny and have an ugly silver border that covers up about half of it (which you won't see pictured on the product). I thought there was something wrong with the batteries I bought and seriously thought about complaining to the store until I saw the other review. The more you use this unit, the more energy it seems to require. I do have about five trouble spots on my face, but moving the unit around my face twice a day can burn up 3 AAA batteries in less than two full uses. But when I first got the unit, the batteries lasted a few days, now I'm lucky if I get through a morning or evening session. It does seem to help my acne (or at least it keeps me from touching my face with my hands), but I have gone through two packs of 20 batteries in less than a month. 2/5 Debra D. Overpriced and too expensive to operate

If you don't mind replacing the batteries EVERY day, this is a great item. Warning! You will burn through three AAA batteries per day with normal use. Research this item before you buy it. It's a better investment to buy the full size, rechargeable unit, because the cost of batteries to run the portable one would cover the difference in price between the portable unit and full size one. Also, note that this unit only runs for 1,000 uses. That's not much when they tell you to use it three times per day per zit. Also, note that this unit only runs for 1,000 uses. That's not much when they tell you to use it three times per day per zit. I do not recommend the Tanda Zap. helps a lot, but requires lots batteries

If not for batteries, I would give it five stars. It does reduce the number of breakouts and makes the existing ones heal much faster. It is especially helpful for cysts, that are not affected by topical medications such as salicylic acid, sulfur and benzoyl peroxide, and for whiteheads. The only con is that it requires batteries replacement about every 50 uses. I bought a set of rechargeable batteries and it solved the problem. My skin type: early twenties, moderate acne with occasional cysts. 4/5 Katherine - See all my reviews This review is from: Tanda Zap Acne Clearing Device (Misc.) TO THE ZITS FOLLOWER THIS BOOK WILL BE A DISAPPOINTMENT

This books contains NO NEW CARTOONS, and the Zits follower could feel cheated, but to NEW Zits FAN, it's a GREAT BUY, a two in one special. So, to the followers - if you have previous books don't purchase this book, unless your're buying it for a friend 2/5 Dorothy E. (Colorado) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Except for some extra non-essential art work, there are no new panels. If you don't have the other volumes and want a book with a nice selection, good choice - otherwise, don't waste your money. Great Comic Strip

Humongous Zits is a compilation of the first two books of this comic strip. It starts out a little slow while the main characters are being introduced, but it soon catches its stride.Jeremy Duncan is a typical teenager just trying to live his life. His parents are on his back, he's got homework to avoid, his garage band isn't getting recording contracts, and he's awkward around the girl of his dreams. Needless to say, his life is anything but boring. The strip is written from Jeremy's point of view, which leads to some great sight gags as we see a situation through his eyes. The characters are slightly cartoonish but real enough for many years of great strips, and I look forward to enjoying it for years to come. 4/5 0, October 4, 2001
