    Wonderful Book

This book is a fabulous explanation of all things that adolescence hands us. As a youth group leader, I'm thrilled to be able to offer this to parents to use when they have 'the talk' with their kids. James Watkins asked over 1000 kids to ask the tough questions about sex - he did the research and answered them honestly, with no holds barred. Good moral background is given and nothing is ignored or glossed over. I've purchased at least 5 copies in the last month - just to hand out. 5/5 Diane Muir "Diane & Max Muir" (Omaha, NE USA) - See all my reviews, April 10, 2001

    Great Comic Strip

Humongous Zits is a compilation of the first two books of this comic strip. It starts out a little slow while the main characters are being introduced, but it soon catches its stride.Jeremy Duncan is a typical teenager just trying to live his life. His parents are on his back, he's got homework to avoid, his garage band isn't getting recording contracts, and he's awkward around the girl of his dreams. Needless to say, his life is anything but boring. The strip is written from Jeremy's point of view, which leads to some great sight gags as we see a situation through his eyes. The characters are slightly cartoonish but real enough for many years of great strips, and I look forward to enjoying it for years to come. 4/5 Mark Baker (Santa Clarita, CA United States) - See all my reviews, October 4, 2001

    A winner

As other people have mentioned, Zits feels like what we'd expect Calvin and Hobbes to be like if it had "grown up". I wasn't sure about the strip when it debuted, but it's really come into its own as the artists have refined the characters. Jeremy is a "typical" teenager, with the usual problems - dating, school, trying to start a band. Fairly stock stuff, but the characterizations are perfect - from his parents, who are somewhat at a loss as to how to raise him, to his best friend Hector, who tolerates him even though he's a dufus sometimes. Everyone is realistic (for a strip), no charicatures. His parents aren't oblivious (when he takes to calling his dad "walt" in more recent strips, his dad argues it, then pulls out a nickname from when Jeremy was a baby, and it stops right there). His friends let him know when he's being a jerk... It's all the funniest things about being a teenager, and pulled off wonderfully. 5/5 Brian A. Keep it up, Jerry and Jim!

What a fantastic collaboration between writer and artist such as exists with Scott & Borgman. The odd-ball expressions Borgman puts on Jeremy's face are priceless but the real star is Mom, sharp tongued, to the point, and yet so gullible. Thanks for lots of laughs, guys! 5/5 0, October 16, 2000

    The Teen Years

When a strip has a name as tasteful and enlightening as "Zits," you know it'll be a winner. And the third "Sketchbook" just came out!The absence of "Calvin and Hobbes" left a hole in the witty humor department for a very long time (the WP newspaper has replaced it with the abysmal "Boondocks") but Zits has an almost eerie similarity to it in structure--as well as the fact that Jeremy has a remarkable resemblance to a six-foot-tall Calvin. It's "Calvin: The Teen Years."Jeremy Duncan is a fifteen-year-old boy who lives in an average home in the suburbs. He tolerates his out-of-it-but-smart parents Walt and Connie, secretly longs for the unattainable Sarah (think of Susie at fifteen), and hangs out with best friend Hector (Hobbes has morphed into a Hispanic high-schooler with more wisdom than Jeremy can ever have).Jeremy is such an "ordinary" teenager that it's astounding. He longs to be dangerous and edgy, but only... 5/5 E. A Solinas "ea_solinas" (MD USA) - See all my reviews, September 23, 2000

This book is full of strips that can relate to almost every teenagers life. Everything from having a girlfriend to the actions made towards the parents by Jeremy(the teenager), and the actions of the parents towards him. This is the ultimate summit of cartooning art!

Today, the cartoon characters are so often grotesque and dysfunctional. Not so in Zits! For the majority of us THIS is a refreshing, good old peek at humor with class, talent, and superb art. The reader can identify with Jeremy, his friends, his experiences, and the parents' perspective. It is a magical combination of first rate profound humor that we can all relate to with clearly unparalleled artistic expression. 5/5 dsford@twocrowcartoons.com (Petersburg, Alaska) - See all my reviews This review is from: Zits: Sketchbook 1 (Paperback) Today, the cartoon characters are so often grotesque and dysfunctional. Movie

    Rating (94 reviews):
    (3.7/5)

Ridiculous entertainment does not equal great cinema

Osmosis Jones is one of those movies you almost feel like you have to apologize for liking. Well, forget about it, because this is a very funny and downright entertaining movie with no class whatsoever! The scenes bounce between live acting and full animation, determined by whether we are outside or inside the body of Frank. The casting for this silly and peculiar movie was expertly chosen for both live and voice roles.Live, we have Bill Murray as Frank, in his most disgusting character since Caddyshack. Chris Elliot plays his brother Bob, and manages to challenge Murray in the "disgusting slob" category. Murray eats a hard boiled egg that landed in monkey doodoo, and thus introduces Thrax into his body, a red-death virus determined to take over Frank and kill him. (voiced by Laurence Fishburne)Inside of Frank, we go to the animation where Chris Rock is the voice of our hero, a white blood cell named Osmosis Jones. Jones is a detective for the City Of Frank,... 5/5 Schtinky "Schtinky" (California) - See all my reviews, May 31, 2004

    Educational (Kinda!)

I've been a 5th grade teacher for 5 years and have shown this movie each year as a reward after learning about the human body in science/health. The kids, for the most part, really enjoy it. There is just enough nasty stuff in there to gross them out - which they love! As a teacher, I just love the entire analogy of the story - every little cell in the body is working toward the same goal - keeping Frank alive. The kids like it, and I also enjoy it. There are some moments in there that are more adult humor that the kids don't even catch, so I'm able to get a laugh out of it. 4/5 J. Hunt (Plainfield, IL) - See all my reviews, December 7, 2004

    Gross, But Funny

Osmosis Jones is a really good movie, if a bit... well... disgusting at times. The plot revolves around a white blood cell named Osmosis Jones (voiced by Chris Rock) who serves as a police officer in the body of a guy named Frank (Bill Murray). When a dastardly virus named Thrax (voiced by Laurence Fishburne) invades Frank's body, it's up to the immunity force to stop him, and Ozzy is teamed up with a cold tablet named Drixobensomedaphedramine, or Drix for short (voiced by the always-wonderful David Hyde Pierce).Meanwhile, the pompous blood cell politician in charge of Frank's body, Mayor Phlegmming (voiced by William Shatner), is desperate to win the next election, but he is obviously doing a sub-par job of running Frank's body. His aide (and Ozzy's love interest), Leah, is voiced by Brandy Norwood. This movie is very amusing in some places, but I had to deduct one star because it is, on occasion, REALLY DARN GROSS. I had to turn my head away from the... 4/5 Ren Culpepper - See all my reviews This review is from: Osmosis Jones (DVD) Osmosis Jones is a really good movie, if a bit... well... disgusting at times. Nice to see all the episodes in one collection

Within weeks of the release of the wondrous Walt Disney Treasure DVD set, "The Mickey Mouse Club Presents Annette," here we have her far more opulent descendant of teen stardom, "Hannah Montana" in its first full-season collection. It's not like you can't turn on Disney Channel and see a multitude of "Hannah" shows at will, but they tend to be clustered without sequence, so it's a different experience to see each show one after the other without promos and other network clutter that even clogs the occasional series marathon.Like "The Monkees," when the furor fades and the songs fall from the charts, the show itself is left to stand on its own. While no one pretends this is "30 Rock" or "Frasier," the "Hannah" series is a capable effort, with Miley Cyrus carrying virtually every scene with timing and confidence that develops somewhat over the episodes. What also becomes clear is the comic frenzy of Jason Earles as her brother, Jackson. Earles is actually older... 4/5 Greg Ehrbar "'MouseTracksOnline'" (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews, November 25, 2008

Best TV series to be produced in a long time

I saw the promo for this show before it first premiered on the Disney channel. As a kid, being a rock star was one of my fantasies. That was not unusual in itself I don't think. The thing in my case was that I wanted to be a "secret" rock star living a double life. So, I had to check out this show when it first aired.Naturally, the show was aimed at younger kids. But I fell in love with the show during the first episode, "Lilly Do You Want to know a Secret." I think this is one of the best TV series to be produced in a long time. I bought the first season the day it was released on DVD and I am looking forward to season 2, 3 and 4 when they are released. It's great to be able to watch the shows on demand or in series the way they were created. This is the perfect gift for any Hannah Montana fan!I especially like the special features included in the DVD set. They have an episode of the Disney Channel Games 2008. Informative and builds awareness on SI

My child's teacher let me borrow this book after some concerns about some sensory issues he was having. This book clearly lays out senses, their function and better yet examples of normal SI and sensory dysfunction. Although my child is not on the spectrum where he would be considered to have SID, the book provided me with an understanding as to why he seems to be sensory driven in everything he does. With the knowledge from this book, I can now "feed him a better sensory diet" as opposed to continue on with my frustrations. The book also has A TON of resources for those children who may need further evaluations. 5/5 NIU mom "Teacher and Mom" (DeKalb Illinois) - See all my reviews This review is from: The Out-of-Sync Child: Recognizing and Coping with Sensory Processing Disorder, Revised Edition (Paperback) My child's teacher let me borrow this book after some concerns about some sensory issues he was having. Very Good Resource

I am a behavioral Consultant for children with Autism. I am always looking for good resources to better understand the children that I work with and how I can provide the best help to meet their needs. I previously purchased the companion to this book, The Out of Sync Child Has Fun. I found that it was a great resource for activities and that it provided an overview of different sensory issues. I realized that I needed this book to dive a little deeper into sensory disorders. I think that this has been a great resource for me and I refer it to the parents I work with as well. I also recomend the campanion book as well as I have found some great ideas in it. 4/5 dandylion - See all my reviews This review is from: The Out-of-Sync Child: Recognizing and Coping with Sensory Processing Disorder, Revised Edition (Paperback) I am a behavioral Consultant for children with Autism.
